Rain in Arizona means two things, Phoenix residents will inevitably post hundreds of rainy photos and rainy updates to the social media feeds and the weatherman will predictably call this storm a ‘big winter storm’ to prepare for. Phoenix traffic will be horrible, much worse than usual, parents will complain and kids will play in the rain. The atmosphere in Phoenix changes when a storm rolls in and rain begins to poor. Seasonal allergies are caused by allergens in the air, most often pollen from blooming flowers and desert plant life that are soaking up this amazing spring weather. With heavy rains and great saturation for new plant growth, flowers are in full bloom and so are seasonal allergies.

An Early Arizona Allergy Season

It’s here: allergy season, and it’s here in Phoenix a bit earlier then usual. Arizona allergy season tends to span from the end of March until the middle of May, but this year due to the crazy weather that Arizona has seen, allergy season is here in full swing and it’s only March 4th! Now, I’m a Phoenix physician and not a meteorologist, but with the rain, hail, even snow that much of valley has seen over the past few weeks, it stands to reason that pollen and new flowers are in full bloom, leading to increased allergens in the air.
